10th Annual Todos Santos Film Festival Feb 20 - 26 2013

From February 20-25, 2013 at Todos Santos and February 26-28 at La Paz. You can enjoy the 10th edition of this espectacular film festival. The organizer is Sylvia Perel who is director of the San Francisco Latino Film Festival and the Latino Festival of Redwood City, California.

This film festival will benefit the Youth in Video program, teaching the children of the Todos Santos area about film making. This edition of the festival is dedicated to the memory of Leonado Perel, Sylvia Perel’s husband who appears in the official poster. 

This fantastic festival brings together a terrific selection of feature films, documentaries and shorts from across Mexico and Latin America that many folks would otherwise never have the opportunity to see. Many well-known film directors attend to present their films and lead audience discussions. Great event!

Los Cabos Carnival 2013 February 14 - 17 Cabo San Lucas México

The word "Carnival" refers to the numerous festivities that occur in many Catholic cities every year prior to the Lenten season. These festivals often last several days or weeks and are widely popular celebrations of local history and culture. Residents and visitors prepare for Carnival festivities throughout the year. Revelers both young and old can enjoy numerous organized activities or party in the city streets with their families, friends, community members, and strangers.

Religious and Historical Significance of Carnival:

Lent is the Catholic season that represents the forty days prior to Jesus' death on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which usually falls in February. On certain days of Lent, Catholics are supposed to abstain from eating meat as a physical and spiritual reminder of Jesus' sacrifices. The word "Carnival" likely originates from the Latin term "carne levare," or "to remove meat." On the day before Ash Wednesday (Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday,") many Catholics ate all of the meat and fat in their homes, and held large parties in the streets as one last celebration before the penitential Lenten season. It is a time when all social classes could disguise themselves, congregate, and forget their usual tribulations. Carnival originated in largely Catholic Southern Europe and spread to the Americas during the age of exploration and colonization.

Happiness is what carnivals are all about. 

Carnival Traditions, Similar and Distinctive:

All places that celebrate Carnival have generally the same activities, but each Carnival is infused with elements of local culture. During both and night, revelers in the streets listen to music and dance, eat, and drink. Many cities hold balls and masquerades. The main tradition of Carnival includes parades through the city streets. Many cities hold parades with floats, which are enormous, decorated vehicles that ca
n carry dozens of riders, who often wear very elaborate, colorful costumes and masks. Parades usually have themes, which often parody current local political and social problems.

How to cure a hungover in Los Cabos // Bloody Mary Recipe

Step 1: Ingredients

• 2oz vodka of your choice
• 8oz spicy tomato juice
• 2oz Bloody Mary mix
• olives
• Tabasco Sauce, Worcestershire sauce
• Celery Salt
• Ice
• Cracked black pepper
• Hot ‘n’ Spicy Pickles
• Martini Shaker
• Pub Glass

Step 2: Mixing

One:  fill shaker with ice, the amount of ice varies with how many drinks you will be mixing and how much ice you enjoy in your drinks.

Two: Add in 8oz of spicy tomato juice along with 2oz of Bloody Mary mix. When it comes to Bloody Mary mix it does not matter what brand you use, just try as many as it takes to find the one that you like best.

Three: Add 1oz Tabasco Sauce and two dashes of Worcestershire sauce, you can add more or less Tabasco it just depends on how spicy you want your drink to be, you can also leave the Tabasco out if you do not like spicy, the drink will be the same either way.

Four: Add in Franks hot sauce, along with cracked black pepper. When it comes to adding these ingredients I always say to add as much as needed to meet your taste.

Five: Add in celery salt, any brand of celery salt will do. The reason that celery salt is so important is that it helps take some of the bite away from the hot sauce and Tabasco sauce. It is also essential when it comes to the flavor and fullness of the drink.


Step 3: Pouring and Garnishing

One: Once you have all of these ingredients added in the shaker, close the shaker and shake it as long as needed to mix all of the ingredients and to chill the drink to perfect serving temperature.

Two: When your drink is chilled and ready to serve remove lid and let stand. While you are letting your drink stand take your tall pub glass and apply a small amount of celery salt around the rim of the glass that way you will taste celery while you drink. When you have the salt around the top of the glass, pour your Bloody Mary into the glass.

Three: Once in the glass it is time to add the garnishes to drink, when garnishing the drink it is all about the appearance. For garnishing you should use zesty pickles and olives. I usually insert a toothpick into the olives so that they stay on top of the drink so the drinker can enjoy them while drinking the Bloody. For the pickle I just insert a wedge into the glass so it stands straight up in the glass.

Glass Menagerie in Los Cabos.

A visit to Vitrofusion y Arte, La Fabrica de Vidrio Soplado (The Blown Glass Factory) is a terrific place to purchase some souvenirs of Los Cabos. Go before 2PM and you’ll be able to watch the artisans at work.

In 1990 local entrepreneur, Sebastian Romo, opened what was, for many years, the only hand-blown glass factory on the Baja Peninsula. Vitrofusion y Arte was originally started to meet the demands of local hotels and shops for tableware. For many years Romo had to bring his artists from the mainland; now the technique is firmly entrenched in Cabo San Lucas. Today the foundry employs more 30 artisans who produce up to 500 one-of-a-kind pieces daily. Using recycled, lead-free glass, they fill custom orders for hotels, restaurants and retail shops, as well as fabricating original pieces for groups and individual buyers—from blue-rimmed margarita glasses to elaborate figurines.

Most tour agencies offer escorted visits with a bilingual guide to the Glass Factory, or you can take a taxi or rental car. It’s located on the bypass road to Todos Santos.
