Glass Menagerie in Los Cabos.

A visit to Vitrofusion y Arte, La Fabrica de Vidrio Soplado (The Blown Glass Factory) is a terrific place to purchase some souvenirs of Los Cabos. Go before 2PM and you’ll be able to watch the artisans at work.

In 1990 local entrepreneur, Sebastian Romo, opened what was, for many years, the only hand-blown glass factory on the Baja Peninsula. Vitrofusion y Arte was originally started to meet the demands of local hotels and shops for tableware. For many years Romo had to bring his artists from the mainland; now the technique is firmly entrenched in Cabo San Lucas. Today the foundry employs more 30 artisans who produce up to 500 one-of-a-kind pieces daily. Using recycled, lead-free glass, they fill custom orders for hotels, restaurants and retail shops, as well as fabricating original pieces for groups and individual buyers—from blue-rimmed margarita glasses to elaborate figurines.

Most tour agencies offer escorted visits with a bilingual guide to the Glass Factory, or you can take a taxi or rental car. It’s located on the bypass road to Todos Santos.

Black & Blue Marlin Tournament — Tuesday, October 23–Saturday, October 27

Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments have been taking place in the Los Cabos region of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico for over 30 years. The Bisbee’s are currently producing three tournaments – Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore in Buenavista which takes place each July, and the Los Cabos Offshore Charity Tournament and Black & Blue Marlin Tournament which take place every October in Cabo San Lucas.

Started in 1981 by Bob Bisbee, the Black & Blue Marlin Tournament has grown from six teams with a purse of $10,000 to more than 150 teams with millions of dollars on the line. In 2006 the Black & Blue had its biggest overall cash payout of $4,165,960. This was, and remains, the largest payout in sportfishing history.

In 2000 Bisbee’s expanded to the east side of the Baja California Sur peninsula with the East Cape Offshore Tournament in Buenavista. In addition to marlin, this tournament included dorado and tuna and became so popular that a third event with the same format was started in 2002 – the Los Cabos Offshore Tournament.
Over the years each tournament has developed its own personality with the East Cape Offshore being a laid back “Cabo fishing as it used to be” type of event, the Los Cabos which takes place just days before the Black & Blue and nick-named the “Little Bisbee’s”, is a very social event full of comraderie where friends can meet, swap stories and get in a few days of fishing before the “Big Show”.

The last tournament in the series, Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament, is hard to describe if you’ve never been there. It’s five days of organized chaos full of hard-core excitement. With the beautiful and lively city of Cabo San Lucas as the backdrop, thousands of people crowd the marina walkways to shop, party and watch huge fish being weighed in at the scales in front of the world-famous Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza. The Black & Blue is a once in a lifetime experience you’ll never forget, whether you take home memories or millions.

Pirate Cave in Los Cabos.

Located near Divorce Beach, on the Pacific side of Los Cabos, this rock formation has made people wonder about its first's visitors has well as their intentions. 

In 1565, Spain set up its famous Manila galleon route taking thousands of ships over the next 250 years from Acapulco to the Philippines and back. These rich cargos of Manila galleons drew English, Dutch, and French pirates, hungry for the gold; the peninsula of California, subsequently, became a hide-out for the booty. Legend has it that this cave, located on the Pacific side near Divorce Beach, was not only a pirate hideout, but may contain some of this hidden treasure. While there were certainly pirates in the area, no one knows for sure what the cave may contain.

Where to celebrate "El Grito" in Mexico

First of all what is "El Grito": The Grito de Dolores is the call that Miguel Hidalgo made for the people of Mexico to rise up against the authorities of New Spain on September 16, 1810, in the town of Dolores, near Guanajuato, initiating Mexico's War of Independence.

The words of the Grito may vary, but they go something like this:

Where to Celebrate "El Grito": If you are spending Mexican Independence Day in Mexico, and you enjoy being part of a large crowd, then you should make your way to the town plaza of whatever city you happen to be in by around 10 pm (or earlier to get a good spot) on September 15th to participate in the Grito.

Many restaurants, hotels and nightclubs offer special Noche Mexicana celebrations in Cabo San Lucas, among other events taking place that night. It's a fun night for partying out on the town.

Road Trip: California's legendary Highway 1

“Prepare your car for a long Road Trip”

When heading out on your next road trip, a few simple maintenance checks will not only help keep you safe, but can also save you money. 

 Here are some tips to make your trip more economical and ensure you arrive safely at your destination:

·         Regularly check the inflation pressure of your tires. Keeping tires properly inflated can save you as much as nine cents per gallon in gas costs. You should check your tire inflation pressure “cold” (at least three hours after the vehicle has been stopped and before it has been driven one mile) once a month and adjust accordingly. Properly inflated tires not only contribute to greater fuel efficiency, but also last longer and perform better.

·       Another big factor is proper wheel alignment. Making sure your vehicle is properly aligned can save as much as 15 cents per gallon.

·         Replacing clogged air filters is a biggie. A clean filter versus one that is severely clogged can mean savings as much as 31 cents per gallon. Air filters also keep impurities in the air from damaging internal engine components.

11th Turtle Festival at Los Cabos

Each year, a group of conservation groups organize a whole festival dedicated to turtles in the largest town around Magdalena Bay. The event usually takes place in July-August, and it lasts for three days. Each day is packed with various activities suited for people of all ages and interests: dancing, cycling, drawing, dining, crafts, cultural activities, building sand castles, volleyball, and swimming. At the end of the three days, everybody will have the chance to release baby turtles. Free entrance; activities start at 8:00 AM in Puerto San Carlos.

Get Married in Mexico.

If you've just set a date for your wedding, this can be an exciting time for the two of you! Don't let the marriage license laws of Mexico put a dent in your wedding plans.

Here's what you need to know and what documents to bring with you before you apply for a Mexico marriage license.

ID Requirements in Mexico: If you are not a resident of Mexico, you will be asked for a Tourist Card/Visa and a valid passport. The airlines will provide you with your tourist card if you are flying in. If you are driving, you will have to get one in Mexico.

Ceremony: A marriage in Mexico is legal only if it is a civil ceremony performed at a local Civil Register Office (Oficina del Registro Civil). You can have a religious ceremony later.

Previous Marriages: If you have been divorced, you need to wait a year before applying for a marriage license. You will also need a certified copy of your divorce decree or certified copy of death certificate of

Tests: A blood test for RPR, and HIV and Thorax (chest) X-rays are required in Mexico. It is recommended that these tests be done in Mexico two days prior to your wedding. Cost of the tests average $125 per person.

Witnesses: You need two to four witnesses over the age of 18. Your witnesses also need to provide identification. Some areas of Mexico may require that two of the witnesses be from your home country. The number of witnesses required depends on the location of your wedding.

Under 18: Parental consent is required if either of you is under 18.

Fees in Mexico: It will cost you approximately $200 (US Funds) to get married in Mexico.

Same Sex Marriages: Two areas of Mexico, the state of Coahuila and Mexico City, have civil union laws that give same-sex couples many of the social and legal benefits of heterosexual marriage in Mexico.

Festival de Arte "Todos Santos"

 

Una de las razones principales de este éxodo de viajeros a Todos Santos es indefectiblemente el singular festival de arte que se realiza cada año en esta población. Con ya 12 años de tradición, el Festival del Arte Todos Santos ofrece durante una semana diversos eventos, talleres y espectáculos en los que se involucra al poblado entero, con sus escuelas y sus centros culturales.

Este año el festival se efectuará del 31 de enero al 7 de febrero con un programa lleno de actividades para toda la población y sus visitantes. A lo largo de la semana se realizarán exposiciones de pintura, fotografía y carteles, y se presentará una muestra permanente de artesanía regional con artículos disponibles también para la venta.

El festival ofrecerá conciertos de guitarra clásica, barroca y flamenca, así como presentaciones de música regional, clásica y de cámara. De igual modo, contará con un ciclo de cine internacional, una muestra gastronómica de la exquisita cocina local, danza folclórica y danza contemporánea, e incluso habrá un concierto de música prehispánica. El programa comprende obras de teatro, un espectáculo cómico musical y actividades para los niños como talleres artístico-culturales y teatro infantil. Algunos eventos como videos y conferencias tendrán traducción al inglés y también se realizará una feria de libros.

Carnaval de La Paz y Cabo San Lucas

El carnaval es una de las fiestas más queridas y esperadas por la sociedad paceña, que desde muchos meses antes prepara lo mismo llamativos disfraces que creativos diseños para los carros y plataforma que desfilan sobre la avenida costera de La Paz.

Esto con el paso de los años fue cambiando, hasta convertirse en lo que en la actualidad es uno de los festivales de mayor convocatoria entre los habitantes de todo Baja California Sur y una de las principales atracciones de La Paz: la celebración dejó los salones privados de las fincas para ser trasladada a las calles de la ciudad. Hoy en día, cualquier bella habitante de la península, de nacionalidad mexicana, puede ostentar el cetro de reina si la votación anual así lo manda.
